Each and everyone of us walked through the door at EHP for a different reason. The reason "WHY" is unique to us as individuals. What you don't know is your "WHY" might be the motivation for someone else to start or even continue walking through the door.
Why did you start crossfit?
I grew up a runner. Throughout high school and college, that was my identity. Family members referred to me as “the runner.” But after I graduated from MSUM in 2012, I was burnt out from the year-round training I had done the past 10 years. I enjoyed working out, but was looking for something else besides running to ease my competitive itch. My friend and fellow “retired” collegiate runner was coaching crossfit at the box in Detroit Lakes and encouraged me to give it a try. I had never done Olympic lifting before and loved learning new techniques and exercises in a fun, high energy environment. I continue to enjoy it, five years later, and now my mother is called “the runner” in our family.
What motivates you to continue?
I continue because there’s always something I can improve on. Crossfit is so diverse in movements, there has never been a moment where I’ve thought ‘my clean and jerk is great, no need to keep working on it’ or ‘toes to bar, got them down..no need to do them in the workout’. You can always improve in form, reps, or weight … and sometimes in all three (I’ll perfect you one day Snatch!). There’s always a next level to reach and the next goal to strive after. That’s the beauty in Crossfit.
Why did you chose to coach?
I found myself giving tips to fellow athletes during workouts and watching youtube videos on movement technique in my spare time. Teaching and coaching are in my nature, it’s what I went to school for and what I’m passionate about. I love sharing knowledge and helping guide others toward a healthier body, mind, and lifestyle.
