You work hard, take a little time for yourself. It’s okay to be selfish every once in a while, in fact it’s a necessity unless you want to crash and burn (which you don’t...that’s no bueno). So each Sunday, I’m going to help you be a little selfish and give you an idea of something you can do to relax and take a little break from the chaos of life.
If you know me as a yoga teacher, you should know this post was coming your way. Meditate. That’s right, you heard me. This Selfish Sunday, take a few minutes out of your day to slow down and meditate. Sit up nice and tall in a comfortable position, legs crossed, and place your hands either down or face-up on your thighs. Close your eyes and start to deepen your breath. Make each breath a little longer than the previous one. Focus on your breathing, let go of other thoughts that pop into your mind. Focus on your breathing until you are relaxed and calm or set a timer for 5 minutes so you don’t focus on how long it has been.

Need a little more guidance? There are several free apps that lead you in short guided meditations. Download ‘Headspace’ or ‘Simple Habit’ for 2-5 minute guided meditations. Meditation doesn’t need to be a long, dramatic ordeal. Taking a couple minutes each day to clear your mind can set your brain back on track and make you overall more productive and calm. Happy Sunday!
