We all have at least one favorite workout from each Open's past years. It could be the workout lists out all of your favorite movements and you know your going to kill it. It could be a super grueling, long, hard workout and you're proud that you got it done. It could be that there was one movement that you were dying to get for months/years and you finally got it. Every year the Open gives us something that will challenge us one way or another. I refer to the open as the most magical time of the year because no matter what is thrown at our community we always find a way to rise to the challenge. Which is the true nature of CrossFit right?
Three athletes were chosen to tell us what their favorite past open workouts were and why.
Kelsey McDowell,
If I had to choose an open workout that was my favorite from 2017, I would say 17.3 (C2B and snatches) not because I did well in this workout but because I got my first C2B that day. I struggled and had to kick my legs and give it my all with every C2B and just remember everyone cheering me on regardless of how far in the workout I got. The amount of support and adrenaline and excitement that comes during the open makes you work harder and do things you think might never happen for you! 2017 was my first experience with the open and I loved all of it! The community/family environment and all the cheering and support makes every workout and struggle worth it and it pushes you farther than you may have pushed all year! So fun and can’t wait for 2018 to get started!
Garrett Maurer,
There have been many good Open workouts. I think my favorite was 16.5
21-18-15-12-9-6-3 Thrusters and Burpees.
This is a deceptive workout and pure grind. As I recall it was hard to see straight for a short while after completion. It isn't the workout that makes it my favorite, but rather an experience while doing the workout. A former member, who was quite good at the mental grind, actually criticized me during the workout! Basically he said "You are physically strong enough but you mentally quit." He was right. This encounter helped fuel my dedication to the mental game and I believe it has helped make me better.
Megan Grote,
17.4 was my favorite workout. Last year was my first year partcipating and I just remember being so intimidated by all of the '55' numbers.
Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 13 minutes of: 55 deadlifts, 155 lb. 55 wall-ball shots, 14-lb. ball to 9-ft. target 55-calorie row 55 handstand push-ups
In this workout I pushed myself harder then I thought I could. I love deadlifts, wallballs were smooth, and the row was really awesome because I finished at the AMRAP time with exactly 55 calroies on the rower. It was an awesome feeling.
